❓ Goat Day Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is this suitable for beginners?

Yes — especially beginners who are ready to do this properly.
This day is designed for people who want to start right, avoid costly mistakes, and feel confident bringing a goat home.

No prior goat experience is required — commitment is.

Do I really go home with a goat the same day?

Yes!
Each participant receives one well-started, disease-free buck kid goat that has received a full dose of colostrum and has been properly bottle started.

You will choose your goat in person, with selection order based on sign-up time.

Why a buck kid?

Buck kids are ideal for learning:

  • Bottle feeding and handling

  • Health and growth management

  • Hoof trimming and parasite control

  • Breeding basics without milking pressure

They are affordable to raise and make excellent companions, pack goats, breeding prospects, or learning animals.

Female kids and disbudding are available at additional cost.

Can I purchase additional goats?

Yes.
Additional kid goats may be purchased at a discounted rate for participants.

Can I bring a guest with me?

Yes!
You may bring one or two guests for an additional $50 each.

Your guest receives:

  • Full day of instruction

  • Participation in demonstrations

  • Lunch included

Guests do not receive a goat, feed, book, or course access.

What exactly will I learn during the day?

You’ll receive practical, real-world instruction covering:

  • Feeding from birth to weaning and beyond

  • Bottle feeding schedules and techniques

  • Milk replacer vs dam-raising (and when each makes sense)

  • Housing options: pasture, barn, or hybrid systems

  • Parasite management without over-deworming

  • Hoof trimming basics

  • Weaning timelines and stress reduction

  • Breeding fundamentals and buck management

  • Health red flags and prevention strategies

This is experience-based learning grounded in 25+ years of goat-raising expertise.

Is lunch included?

Yes! 🥪
A free farm lunch is included for all registered participants and guests.

What if my goat setup isn’t ready yet?

That’s okay — as long as you are actively preparing.

All participants will receive:

  • A Pre-Goat Day Readiness Checklist

  • A What to Expect When You Bring Your Kid Home guide

These ensure you know:

  • What must be ready before your goat arrives

  • What can be adjusted later

  • How to set your kid up for a low-stress transition

IMPORTANT: What is required to participate?

This is non-negotiable and critical for goat health:

To participate, you must be:

  • Ready to bring a goat home

  • Prepared to feed your kid twice per day

    • Once in the morning (before work or school)

    • Once in the evening

    • Ideally at 12-hour intervals

If this schedule does not work for your household at this time, this is not the right program yet — and that’s okay.

What ongoing support do I receive after Goat Day?

You are not left on your own.

Included:

  • Access to our private goat-raising online community (not Facebook)

  • ONE free Goat-Raising Mastermind session

  • FIRST access to Katie Normet’s NEW online goat course — FREE

This support is designed to carry you confidently through the early weeks and beyond.

Is the book Raising and Keeping Dairy Goats included?

Yes.
Each participant receives a physical copy of the book Raising and Keeping Dairy Goats by Katie Normet — a trusted, long-term reference.

What should I bring with me?

  • Weather-appropriate clothing

  • A water bottle and snacks if needed (lunch is provided)

  • A notebook and pens

  • Questions and curiosity

We’ll cover safe transport and first-day setup before you head home with your goat.

How many spots are available?

Only 20 participant spots.
This keeps the day hands-on, personal, and high-quality.

Once spots are filled, registration closes.
