Rustic Rangers are a slower-growing type of chicken known for their richer flavour and firmer, denser texture. They offer a more traditional eating experience, with the satisfying texture and delicious flavour that make a home-cooked chicken dinner something special.
Raised right here at River's Edge, our chickens spend their days outdoors on pasture, enjoying fresh air, sunshine, green grass and the freedom to forage naturally.
We supplement their pasture diet with non-GMO feed and raise them using organic farming practices, with care for the animals and the land.
This year's chickens are generously sized, full of flavour and ready for your freezer!
Choose Your Rustic Ranger Chicken
Whole Pasture-Raised Chicken — $7.50/lb
Approximately 5–8 lb per bird. Wonderful for roasting, family dinners, leftovers and rich homemade chicken stock.
Half Pasture-Raised Chicken — $7.75/lb
Approximately 3–5 lb per half. All the flavour of our pasture-raised Rustic Rangers in a convenient portion for roasting or grilling.

Reserve Your Chicken for $50
A flat $50 non-refundable deposit reserves your order and is credited toward your final purchase.
Your final total is based on the actual packaged weight of your chickens, with the remaining balance payable when your order is ready.
Farm pickup begins October 24–25, 2026, with pickup also available afterward by arrangement.
Can't make it to the farm? We can ship your chicken frozen directly to your door! Shipping costs are additional.
Limited seasonal harvest. Once this year's chickens are gone, they're gone!

How many chickens do I need to order?
The minimum order is four pieces. You can choose any combination of whole chickens and halves.
Order eight or more pieces and receive a $0.50/lb discount on your entire order.
How much will my chicken cost?
Our regular prices are $7.50/lb for whole chickens and $7.75/lb for halves.
For orders of eight or more pieces, prices drop to $7.00/lb for whole chickens and $7.25/lb for halves.
For example, four half chickens weighing approximately 4 lb each would cost $124 before deducting your deposit.
Prices are calculated using actual packaged weights. If we're able to offer an additional large-bird discount, we'll confirm that before final payment.

Can I request smaller or larger chickens?
Absolutely! Let us know your preferred size when ordering.
We'll do our best to accommodate your request, although exact weights cannot be guaranteed.
How does the deposit work?
Your $50 deposit reserves your entire order, regardless of the number of pieces purchased.
The deposit is non-refundable if you cancel, but it is applied in full toward your purchase.
If we're unable to supply you with chicken, we'll refund your deposit.
When can I pick up my chicken?
Farm pickup begins Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25, 2026.
Pickup after that weekend is also available by arrangement. We'll contact you when your order is ready.
Can I have my chicken delivered?
Yes! We can ship your order frozen to eligible delivery addresses.
Shipping is charged separately, and we'll confirm the cost and arrangements before sending your order.
Are your chickens organic?
We raise our Rustic Rangers on pasture using organic farming practices, with non-GMO feed supplementation.
We believe in working with nature, supporting healthy soil and providing our animals with an environment where they can express their natural behaviours.
Our chickens are not advertised as certified organic.
How should I cook Rustic Ranger chicken?
Rustic Rangers have a firmer texture than conventional grocery-store chickens.
They are wonderful roasted, braised or slow-cooked. Gentle cooking methods and careful temperature control help produce delicious, tender meat while preserving their rich flavour.
Their bones also make exceptional homemade chicken stock.
Will my chicken be fresh or frozen?
Your chicken will be processed and packaged for your order. We'll confirm whether your farm pickup order will be fresh or frozen when arranging collection. Shipped orders will be frozen.
